With its exceptional natural beauty, the Slovak Paradise is one of the most beautiful national parks in Central Europe. It is one of the youngest national parks. In 1964 it was declared a protected landscape area and in 1988 it was recategorized as a national park. It has an area of 19,763 ha and a protection zone of 13,011 ha. It measures 25 kilometers from west to east, 18 km from north to south.

The highest place in the Slovak Paradise is Predná hoľa 1545 m above sea level. The lowest place is the level of the Hornád near Smižanská Maša 470 m above sea level

The Slovak Paradise is rich in various surface and underground karst phenomena. These are various rock towers, waterfalls, needles, high walls, abysses, or caves. Among them, the Lost Cave stands out, which is the second longest in Slovakia with 18.5 km. Forests cover approximately 90% of the territory.

GORGES in the Slovak Paradise: The longest and most massive gorge is the Veľký Sokol gorge with a length of 4.5 km and a depth of 300 m. The shortest and only accessible gorge facing south is the Zejmarská gorge 0.8 km. The most romantic and most visited is the Suchá Belá gorge. The longest canyon is the Hornád Gorge, which is up to 11.7 km long. The highest waterfall is the Veil Waterfall in the Sokolej Valley with a height of 70 m.

The territory of the Slovak Paradise also includes nature reserves - Holý Kameň, Kocúrová, Kyseľ, Hradisko, Ostrá skala, Piecky, Prielom Hornádu, Sokol, Stratená, Suchá Belá, Tri kopce, Mokrá, Zejmarská roklina and Vernárska gorge.

Protected natural creations include the well-known Dobšinská Ice Cave, Devil's Hole, Red Jarok, Bear Cave and Hranovnické Pleso. 

The Slovak Paradise is an example of the most typical mountain karst area. It is known for its deep gorges with many waterfalls and vast plateaus. The limestone plain has been divided by centuries of flowing water into several plains, mountain ridges and winding canyons. The rivers have dug narrow and deep gorges with a depth of 150 to 450 m. For tourists who come here regularly, there are certainly well-known tourist resorts: Podlesok, Hrabušice, Čingov, Mlynky, Stratená, and inside the territory is Kláštorisko. 

History fans can see the reconstructed ruins of the Carthusian monastery from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. 

The Slovak Paradise offers a floristically rich area - up to 930 species of higher plants live here, and it also offers the highest concentration of butterflies in Slovakia.

The smallest mammal is the lesser sandpiper, the largest is the brown bear, the smallest bird is the golden-headed rabbit, the largest bird is the golden eagle, the most beautiful birds of prey are the wild cat and the lynx. There is also a population of otter, predatory wolves, the most controversial animal is the alpine chamois, the largest colony of bearded bats in Europe winters in the Dobšinská Ice Cave.

Nowadays, nature lovers and mountain sports enthusiasts will come into their own here in every season. In winter, skiers mainly look for the resorts of Mlynky Gugeľ and Mlynky Biele Vody, but there are also lifts in Levoča and Hnilčík. There are also cross-country skiing trails in Mlynky Biele Vode.

On hot days, you can swim in the Dedinky resort on Palcmanská Maša, from the north you can refresh yourself in the Klauzy reservoir near Smižany. Those who do not like to swim, but want to cool off, can also visit the largest ice cave in Slovakia, the Dobšinská Ice Cave, which is also on the UNESCO list.

For cyclists, there are a number of bike paths that are marked in the traditional way - a white square with a colored letter C.
